How to Play – Footy Connections

Footy Connections is a quick-fire football logic game where you must find the one connection that ties together a set of clues. You’ll start on easier rounds and work your way up to Ultra Hard – all while trying not to lose your lives.

🎯 Objective

For each puzzle, you’ll see four football-related clues and a set of possible answers. Your goal is to pick the single correct connection that links all four clues. Earn points, survive as long as you can, and set a high score for the leaderboard.

1️⃣ Understand the layout

At the top of the game you’ll see a small status bar showing:

• ❤️ Lives – how many mistakes you can still afford (you start with 3).
• ⭐ Score – total points you’ve earned so far.
• 🎯 Difficulty – the current level: Easy, Medium, Hard or Ultra Hard.

Below that, the puzzle area shows your four clues and a group of buttons representing different possible connections.

2️⃣ Read the clues carefully

Each round shows you four pieces of information – for example:

• Four players who all featured for the same club.
• Four managers linked by a specific trophy.
• Four moments from the same season, tournament or rivalry.

Your job is to work out what they all have in common, then pick the matching connection from the options below.

3️⃣ Choosing your answer

• Tap or click one of the connection buttons to select it.
• The selected option will highlight, so you know which answer you’re going with.
• When you’re ready, hit “Check” to lock in your choice.

Take a moment to think – once you check your answer, you either score points or lose a life.

4️⃣ Lives, difficulty & progression

• You start with 3 lives.
• Every wrong answer costs you 1 life.
• At 0 lives, the game ends and your final score is set.

The difficulty ramps up as you survive longer:

• Questions 1–2: Easy
• Questions 3–4: Medium
• Questions 5–9: Hard
• Question 10 onwards: Ultra Hard – no upper limit, keep going until you run out of lives.

On a correct answer, you’ll see a success message and the game will automatically load the next puzzle. On a wrong answer, you’ll get feedback and your lives will drop by one.

5️⃣ Scoring & leaderboard

• Every correct connection earns you points (shown in the score bar).
• The further you go, the tougher the questions – your score reflects how deep into the run you’ve managed to get.
• When you lose your last life, you’ll see your final score and a short form to save it.

To appear on the Footy Connections Leaderboard and join the FootyQuiz mailing list:

• Enter your name and email address after the game.
• Tick the box to confirm you accept the Privacy Policy and agree to receive updates.
• Hit “Submit score” to record your run and join the community.

6️⃣ Sharing your run

After playing, you’ll also see options to share your result on Facebook, X, WhatsApp and SMS. Use them to challenge friends: can they spot the connections and beat your score?

💡 Tips for Footy Connections

• Look for the most obvious link between the clues first – club, nation, competition, or era.
• If one clue doesn’t make sense, think about how the other three might be related.
• Don’t rush Ultra Hard – one careless guess can end a big run.
• Use your broader football knowledge: titles, derbies, transfers, legendary seasons and managers.
